Growing Meals on Wheels program at Sycamore Senior Center seeks volunteers

As the elderly population continues to grow so does the need for Meals on Wheels services in the Cincinnati suburbs. “We currently deliver meals on over 20 routes each day and we depend on driver volunteers to make that happen.” said Bonnie Dwyer, the Sycamore Senior Center Volunteer Coordinator, “We’re seeing a growing need in the Roselawn, Sharonville, Glendale, Forest Park, Greenhills, Hartwell, Brentwood areas.”

Over the years, Sycamore’s Meals on Wheels program has expanded its services to include special menu choices that meet dietary restrictions and more flexibility in the delivery of meals. Clients can now select which meals get delivered and they can also have a choice for which days they receive their meals.

“Delivering meals to the elderly and disabled is an extremely rewarding experience that doesn’t require a lot of time,” said Ms. Dwyer. Most volunteers offer one or two hours per week Monday through Friday to deliver meals to approximately 12 to 15 homes on a route.

Ms. Holloway also wants to be sure that seniors and the disabled from Loveland all the way down to Deer Park are aware that this service is available to them. If you would like more information about the Meals on Wheels program or to volunteer, call Bonnie Dywer or the Outreach Coordinator Rod Torbert at 513-984-1234.
